The Let's Learn Reading series addresses learning goals
for reading in five main areas:
- Phonemic Awareness: Phonemic awareness is the understanding of the connection between spoken language and printed text. Students completing this level will be able to identify and manipulate phonemes and further develop their ability to sound out new words.
- Vocabulary: Learning new words, both in oral and written form, will help students expand their understanding of what they read. New vocabulary words are introduced to make overall comprehension stronger.
- Fluency: Fluency refers to the smoothness and expression of a child's reading. With practice, students should be able to read naturally and with few mistakes.
- Comprehension: Comprehension is understanding of the meaning of a text. Students who have developed phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and fluency can focus on the meaning of the text and make sense of what they read and hear.
